L’National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) made a big mistake, which took several months to resolve. The institute declared the death of Xavier Prevedello, the mayor of Saint-Porquier, in Tarn-et-Garonne. Only, the chosen one is still alive and well today. The blunder comes from a confusion over a death certificate completed by the mayor for a resident who died in his town, reveals RTL. Insee would then have confused the words “declaring” with “declared”.

Last November, the secretary of the town hall of Saint-Porquier announced the news to the city councilor after receiving an unexpected note. “We realize in fact that I must be removed from the electoral list following my death. So she calls me and asks me if I can give her the time of my death, ”he says on the radio, without lacking in humor. In order to avoid any administrative complications, Xavier Prevedello quickly contacted the prefecture to explain the situation.

“A disturbing experience”

While he thinks he has solved the problem, the mayor receives a letter from Health Insurance at his home. This letter contained “a document so that my family can receive the death benefit”, he laments. At the same time, he sees two websites sharing his death online and fears as the news spreads in the area. After two months of adventures, Xavier Prevedello finally manages to fix this mistake. “At least I knew I was fine,” he quips, “it’s still a disturbing experience.”
