After delays in sending paper returns to taxpayers, the tax authorities granted them additional time.
The tax authorities grant taxpayers a short delay. The Directorate General of Public Finance (DGFiP) warned on Wednesday that French people who still declare their income in paper format will have until May 31 to fulfill their tax obligations. Initially, they had until May 19 to do so.

The administration justifies this additional delay by its own delays in sending the necessary documents to the tax households concerned. “Some users received their pre-filled 2021 tax return in paper format significantly later than in previous years”, explains the DGFiP in a press release. A minority of French people still use paper tax returns. “A little less than 5% of users who receive these declarations” are concerned specifies the DGFiP.
On the other hand, “the online filing schedule is not changed”, recalls the DGFiP. Depending on the departments, the deadlines for declaring income online are set for May 24, May 31 or June 8, particularly for Île-de-France.

This is not the first difficulty encountered by the tax authorities during this 2022 declaration campaign. From its launch on April 8, the online declaration remained inaccessible for three days. Indeed, the DGFiP had to temporarily suspend this service because “pre-filling errors” statements.
