Porsche has meticulously prepared its comeback to surpass the Tesla Model S Plaid in terms of performance and electric power. With the launch of the Taycan Turbo GT, this goal has now been achieved.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT marks a turning point in the history of Porsche, positioning itself as the most powerful production car ever produced by the German manufacturer. With peak power reaching 1,108 horsepower, this premium electric sedan defies convention and is a direct rival to the Tesla Model S Plaid, while setting new performance standards for electric vehicles.

Win on Sunday, sell on Monday

Barely available on the market, yet already a record holder: the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package is now the fastest production electric car on the Laguna Seca racetrack in California, well known to racing enthusiasts. Gran Turismothanks to his lap record established on February 23, 2024.

With a time of 1:27.87 minutes, Porsche development driver Lars Kern completed the fastest lap ever achieved in a road-legal electric model. But that’s not all. Shortly before, a pre-production version of the same model had set a class record on the Nürburgring. The same driver had in fact achieved a time of 7:07.55 minutes on the North Loop. He then beat his previous one by 26 seconds at the wheel of a Taycan Turbo S equipped with the performance pack.

With this time, Porsche shatters the record of the Tesla Model S Plaid equipped with the Track Pack which caused a stir last June with almost 18 seconds difference! The Tesla then posted a time of 7:25.23 min. This time is also the current record for a production electric car, making the Taycan Turbo GT the fastest four-door model on the Nürburgring circuit, all engine types combined.

Quest for performance

In its quest for supremacy, Porsche did not hesitate to deploy considerable resources. With a maximum power of 1108 hp, the Taycan Turbo GT sacrifices its rear seat in favor of a resolutely circuit-oriented orientation, following the example of the brand’s high-performance thermal vehicles, such as the Cayman GT4 RS and the 911 GT3 RS. The new rear motor incorporates silicon carbide into its semiconductors to optimize performance and efficiency.
