TCL C645: a basic and affordable 60Hz Ultra HD TV

The TCL C645 is an Ultra HD Direct Led television without great ambition except to offer a quality image for watching television, but not necessarily for HDR content. We should find the image quality of the C735 from last year, but the 60 Hz panel should not work miracles in games and for fluidity in general. TCL still uses a trick to be able to display Full HD 1080p content at 120 Hz by dividing the vertical definition by two. The manufacturer claims to add an image by interpolation, but we do not understand how the system works if the native refresh remains stuck at 60 Hz.

This model has two speakers 2 x 10 W up to 55 inches and 2 x 15 W for larger models. It has three HDMI inputs indicated as HDMI 2.1 compatible, but without the 4K 120 Hz which is of no interest with a 60 Hz panel. It still retains the ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for automatic switching to game mode, eARC for audio return to a high definition soundbar and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) on a reduced range (48 to 60 Hz) to avoid image tearing.

This television also has microphones integrated directly into the television for hands-free use of Google Assistant, which is very rare at this price level.

Price and availability

The interest of the TCL C64 is its price. If the TCL 55C645 is launched at €650, it should quickly sell for less than €600 and sometimes even below €500 depending on promotions. Less interesting, the TCL 43C645 and 50C645 are respectively displayed at 500 and 600 €. The 65-inch (165 cm) model – the TCL 65C645 – is sold for around €850 and should also benefit from regular promotional offers bringing its price down to around €700. The TCL 75C645 (190 cm) is marketed for 1400 €, but it should end up under 1000 € like its predecessor, the 75C635. Finally, the 85 inch (216 cm) – TCL 85C645 – displayed at around 1900 € should be able to be found at less than 1600 €.

All these new models are already available in some stores, notably at Boulanger. Note that officially, TCL has launched the C64 television: the last figure varies according to the distributors and the finishes (different colors of the frame or the feet). In fact, we can therefore find televisions C641, C642, C643, etc. All these models should be identical.
