Thursday February 23, 2023, the Bayonne prosecutor spoke during a press conference. He insisted on returning to certain rumors concerning the teenager who stabbed his teacher to death.
The day after the death of a Spanish teacher, stabbed in class in Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the profile of the main suspect is becoming clearer. Indeed, Jérôme Bourrier, the public prosecutor of Bayonne spoke about the investigation during a press conferencebroadcast by BMFTV. He thus indicated that the prosecution would open a judicial inquiry of premeditated murder on Friday, February 24.
Examined by a doctor, the 16-year-old suspect reportedly reported “little voice that speaks to him, a being he describes as manipulative, who incites him to do evil and who would have pushed him to commit an assassination the day before the drama“. For now, his psychiatric examination would not have made it possible to detect a mental illness and the adolescent would therefore appear accessible to criminal liability “subject to expertise and a possible alteration of his discernment“.
The prosecutor denied a rumor about the teenager
Asked if the teenager would have announces its intention to kill the teacher a few days before the tragedy, the Bayonne prosecutor wanted to deny this information. “I know it’s a rumor that went around, but you know, after such acts, there are a lot of rumors going around. Today, we have not objectified this element.to,” he said.
Finally, Jérôme Bourrier wanted to specify that the main suspect was “extremely shocked” by his act. Schooled in second class, the teenager was described as “intelligent, hardworking, solitary” but with some animosity towards his Spanish teacher”where his results were not good“. He was followed by a psychiatrist after a drug suicide attempt in October 2022. The investigation is now expected to continue.
