Teleperformance: Teleperformance will meet the Colombian government after the opening of an investigation into the group


PARIS (Reuters) – Teleperformance said on Monday it would meet with officials from Colombia’s labor ministry this week after the country opened an investigation into the company over its labor practices in the country.

The French call center specialist, which employs more than 41,000 people in the South American country, said in a statement on Monday that the meeting had been set up at his request with the objective “to initiate dialogue with the recently elected government in Colombia, regarding its operations in Colombia”.

“As a responsible and law-abiding company, Teleperformance Colombia will also provide its full support to the authorities in any control they may wish to carry out,” the group added.

The opening of the investigation follows information from the American magazine Time and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, dating from October, on the working conditions in Colombia of the employees in charge of moderation on the social network Tiktok, of which Teleperformance is a subcontractor.

According to this press information, the employees, whose union rights are not respected, are subjected to traumatic working conditions for a salary of 10 dollars a day (10.05 euros).

In a conference call with analysts late Monday, Bhupender Singh, president of Global Group Transformation at Teleperformance, said the company had received 18 visits from government entities in the past three years alone. in Colombia and “that there had been no significant discoveries that we had to worry about”.

He added that the group had not yet been informed of any investigation by the Colombian government but had launched an internal audit into the allegations.

“Any finding (areas in which) we need to improve, we will act immediately, we will not wait for a big report,” he said, adding that the group also wants to carry out a more detailed audit of its operations. content moderation worldwide.

Teleperformance CEO Daniel Julien said for his part that he believed the group would reach an agreement with the Colombian union Ultra Claro, and assured that his company respected the applicable laws in the United States and elsewhere.
