A Rennes brokerage company was fined 20,000 euros for having canvassed thousands of individuals who were nevertheless registered on the Bloctel list.
Telephone canvassing, which it is possible to protect against, but at the cost of serious effort, is a real scourge which still has a bright future ahead of it. But as a consumer, know that you are not alone. The authorities, led by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), are fighting to enforce increasingly strict regulations in this area. The company Budgetlyss learned this the hard way.
Thousands of consumers contacted… who did not want it
Based in Rennes, this company was sanctioned for having contacted 77,193 people registered on Bloctel’s anti-prospecting list. The measure taken by the DGCCRF is not trivial: Budgetlyss was fined 20,000 euros, as reported by our colleagues from Telegram.
Remember, however, that a professional who violates one of the rules governing telephone canvassing is exposed to a financial penalty of up to 375,000 euros.
The fine was undoubtedly proportional to the size, location and revenue of Budgetlyss. After some research, we discovered that its share capital is increased to 31,050 euros, that it has between 20 and 50 employees, and that it was able to generate a turnover of 390,000 euros in 2015, the last known year. .
SignalConso has once again served
For the deputy director of the population protection department in Ille-et-Vilaine, Virshna Héng, the fine is entirely proportionate to the (fairly large) number of people affected. According to him, it could well dissuade other companies from proceeding in the same way.
The brokerage company, which clearly abused its practice of commercial telephone canvassing, was directly denounced by consumers. Many people have made a report from the SignalConso platform, operated by Fraud Repression. The tool allows citizens to bring to the attention of the DGCCRF, and therefore Bercy, questionable corporate practices in many areas of daily life.
The boss of Budgetlyss, Mickael Diraison, for his part regretted the decision, evoking a “ error in choosing a service provider “. There is no doubt that the Rennes firm will not do the same thing twice.
