Telephone scammers active – bold fraudulent calls lured several times with profit

Phone scammers are on the move again! A woman from the Kufstein district (name known to the editors) reported to the “Krone” editorial team about multiple fraud calls. “Three times I received calls from unknown numbers that wanted to take the money out of my pocket,” complained the Unterländerin.

The scammers got to work in a clever way: with an invented digital currency, with well-known people from security companies who are pushing for the handover, and with specific handover locations to hand over the processing fee in cash. The Kufstein native recently received a call saying that she had won €29,000 at Euromillions. The prize handover should take place one day later between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Since a security company would organize the necessary arrangements (with armored cars, employees and a notary), a processing fee of 1000 euros would be incurred. Of course, the money should be handed over in cash. The woman recognized the ruse and immediately called the police to explain the facts. Police advised the woman to block the number immediately. You can report the call, but that’s no use, because you already have enough numbers like that. “You keep reading about scam calls. It annoyed me that there was such a reaction from the police,” said the woman from Kufstein, visibly upset. “They called me again!” A day later, another call came in on a different number. This time by an alleged department head of the security company, who pushed for the money to be handed over: The processing fee was to be issued using a digital currency on a receipt. When asked which handover location she would suggest for the personal meeting at 2 p.m., the woman said: “Kufstein police station.” Of course, the callers did not show up, but the incident was reported. Forty-five minutes later, the fraudsters called for the third time, again with a different phone number. With impertinence they asked if a receipt for the cryptocurrency had been fetched and again asked the woman to enter the 16-digit code so that the prize could be handed overVanessa Holer, Kronen Zeitung
