Tencent announces a new World of Warcraft-style MMO, Tarisland

The timing couldn’t have been better. While NetEase struggles with Blizzard following the end of their collaboration, which allowed the Chinese publisher to distribute World of Warcraft on its territory, Tencent tackles the MMO market with a first video for Tarislanda title that makes absolutely no effort to hide its influences but which could establish itself as one of the future heavyweights of the genre, if the publisher puts the means there.

An MMO that arrives at the right time

Impossible not to think of Blizzard’s game when seeing the first images of Tarisland, whether through the art direction or what it seems to offer in terms of content. The title will feature eight classes at launch and will emphasize group battles with raids and giant bosses.

We will also note similarities with other obvious licenses (yes, we all thought of Stargate from the beginning of the video), but it’s probably not his lack of inspiration that will dampen expectations around the title, especially after the disappearance of World of Warcraft in the Chinese market.

For now, we do not know if Tarislandwhich is planned for PC and mobile platforms, will make its way to us. But by filling a void that has just taken root in China, this MMO already has all the keys to success if it does not turn out to be a simple soulless copy.
