Tennis / Brisbane: Three match points were not enough for Nadal who exits through the back door

by Sebastien Salpietro (iDalgo)

It’s a disappointment for Rafael Nadal! The Spaniard lost his ATP Brisbane quarter-final to Jordan Thompson (7-5, 6-7, 3-6). After winning the first set, the Manacor bull had a match point at 6-5 and two more in the tie-break of the second set to win. Unfortunately, he was unable to convert them and gave up the second round to his opponent. Moreover, it was an event from which he never recovered since he was not able to compete in the last round. This defeat thus prevents Rafael Nadal from reaching the semi-finals which the American will play against Grigor Dimitrov, winner of Rinky Hijikata in two sets (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round, just like Holger Rune who beat James Duckworth (6-2, 7-6).
