Stricker is allowed to go to Milan

Despite his defeat in the round of 16 at the Swiss Indoors late on Wednesday evening, Dominic Stricker qualified for the Next Generation Finals of the ATP the week after next in Milan. The 20-year-old from Bern is the first Swiss player to take part in this masters of the best eight players of the year, up to the age of 21. Stricker (ATP 129) can no longer be pushed out of tenth place in this ranking. Since the first two – Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner – do not participate, that is enough for qualification. The tournament is taking place for the fifth time, the last three winners were Alcaraz, Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

New mixed competition at the start of the season

A new mixed competition will kick off the 2023 tennis season. As the ATP and WTA announced, $15 million in prize money and ranking points are at stake in the United Cup in Australia. The tournament will replace the men’s ATP Cup and will be held in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. The competition is intended to serve as preparation for the Australian Open.
