Tens of thousands of protesters converge on Jerusalem against judicial reform

The heat didn’t stop them.

Tens of thousands of people marched between Tel Aviv and the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) to protest against the controversial judicial reform carried out by the government of Binyamin Netanyahu.

A reform which, for an executive believing that the Supreme Court is too politicized, must make it possible to rebalance the powers. Opponents of this measure consider that it endangers Israeli democracy.

On Sunday July 23, the Knesset will debate a measure aimed at canceling the possibility for the Israeli courts to rule on the “reasonableness” government decisions. If passed, it will be the first major component of the proposed judicial reform to become law.
