The British airline Easyjet announced on Monday that it would suspend its flights “to and from Tel Aviv”, at a time when the world awaits Israel’s response to the unprecedented attack carried out by Iran on the night of Saturday to Sunday.
“Due to the evolving situation in Israel, Easyjet has taken the decision to temporarily suspend its operations to and from Tel Aviv until April 21,” the airline announced Monday, in a statement sent to the AFP.
“The safety and security of our passengers and crew are always Easyjet’s top priority,” the company added, specifying that it had contacted customers on flights affected by these cancellations by SMS and email.
Easyjet had already canceled several flights to Israel on Sunday, including a rotation between London Luton airport and Tel Aviv, a company spokesperson told AFP.
Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles towards Israeli territory overnight from Saturday to Sunday, in response to an April 1 strike on the consular annex of the Iranian embassy in Damascus (Syria) , attributed to Israel.
Almost all of the missiles and drones were destroyed before hitting Israeli territory. This was Iran’s first direct attack on Israel.
The German airline Lufthansa had already announced on Sunday the suspension until Monday inclusive of its flights to and from Tel Aviv as well as Erbil in Iraq and Amman in Jordan, “in the context of the current situation”.
