Tequila Works: Tencent becomes majority investor in the studio behind RiME and GYLT

Turtle Rock Studios, Inflection Games, 1C EntertainmentTencent has bought several interesting studios again in recent months, just to expand its empire even further. The Chinese giant is diversifying its business again this week, not by acquiring a company, but by becoming its majority investor: it has in fact just injected a large sum of money into Tequila Works.

Deadlight, The Sexy Brutale, Rhyme, Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son and lately GYLT exclusively on Stadia, the studio based in Madrid since 2009 has already delivered a long list of varied and appreciated projects. It will take advantage of this new majority investor to move to the next level, by “fuelling its growth” in order to “produce new original licenses”.

“For 12 years, the teams at Tequila Works have passionately crafted high-quality titles that radiate our personal sensibility,” said Raúl Rubio, CEO of Tequila Works. “But there is a limit to what you can grow on your own.
