TerraMaster has developed data backup features to protect you from ransomware. Specifically, the company would like to protect its NAS from Checkmate ransomware.
A whole series of new features have therefore appeared in the TerraMaster backup system.
The ransomware threat
Ransomware is among the most effective malware: once introduced into victims’ devices, it encrypts their data and deletes backups. Generally speaking, paying the ransom is much more efficient and much cheaper than chasing after the bad guys. Also, in most cases, data decryption will be impossible to achieve without the help of the hackers themselves.
Checkmate is one of them. This software seizes the data and demands a ransom of 15,000 dollars, to be paid in Bitcoin. Unfortunately, once payment is made, data decryption is still not guaranteed. Thus, the best way to protect against Checkmate ransomware is to keep backups externally, on unplugged devices and in several different locations.
The new TerraMaster backup tools
This is what TerraMaster seeks to achieve with centralized backups to its NAS systems, network storage servers. One of the updates will restore data from multiple devices from a single TNAS storage tool, while the Duple Backup gives the ability to save different versions of files in the event of a crash.
TerraMaster has also developed the TFSS system (TerraMaster File System Snapshot), a data recovery tool based on the BTRFS tree. Another tool, called TerraSync, synchronizes data between a large number of users and their devices so that employees of large companies can work together on the same files from a single backup.
TerraMaster’s new app, called CloudSync, allows you to synchronize your data with Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, Amazon S3, Backblaze, Box, Dropbox, Koofr, OpenDrive, pCloud, Yandex disk, and Aliyun from a single application.
