There are spectacular scenes that happen on Tuesday afternoon in Wallisellen ZH: According to Blick reader reporters, a BMW ignored a red light. A Tesla then had to evade the car. After the maneuver, the electric car crashes into the railing of an underpass and gets stuck there.
The crash was sensational – but luckily no one was injured. Not even the Tesla handlebars themselves. Martin Eigenmann (64) lives in Glattfelden ZH and bought the Tesla Model S six years ago for around 95,000 francs. «It was a demonstration car. I still got a little discount on the purchase, ”he says to Blick the day after the accident.
“Wanted to prevent a collision with another car”
He had driven to a traffic light from the direction of Glattzentrum. “Two cars in front of me were still green. Me when the traffic light changed to orange. ” Eigenmann saw the BMW parked at the intersection. “He probably didn’t see me coming and then drove off. I thought if I brake now, I’ll thunder into him. I just wanted to avoid an accident in which cars crashed. “
So Eigenmann decided instead to step on the gas and turn around the BMW. The calculation only works to a certain extent: Eigenmann can prevent the crash with the BMW. But it crashes fully into the railing of the underpass. “I can’t say exactly why the maneuver didn’t work,” says the native of St. Gallen. “It would be interesting to be able to see the images from the surveillance camera. Then I would know whether I drove the way I intended. “
“Lifted the car – then I couldn’t steer any more”
Eigenmann assumes, however, that he has come across a small single-track island. «It was very likely that my car was lifted a bit there. Then I couldn’t steer any more. “
The new pensioner also makes it clear that he had not switched on the autopilot in the accident. «Not because of autopilot! It was I who steered. I never use the autopilot at this intersection. Otherwise mostly – or stop with the cruise control. “
Speaking of speed: Here, too, the former hotel manager openly provides information. He says he was traveling at 60 km / h. “But when I decided to quickly drive around the BMW, I of course accelerated. And a Tesla accelerates relatively quickly! It could also be that I could do a little more than 60 km / h. “
Outside via the back seat
So after the jagged evasive maneuver, there is a crash. But afterwards he was not in a state of shock, said Eigenmann. He scrambles into the back seat and gets out. The 64-year-old only got a few scratches from broken glass.
And the Tesla fan also thinks he knows why he was practically unharmed: “Tesla is the safest car there is at the moment. The accident could have turned out differently in a different car. It could have pushed the engine in the direction of the driver. “
Therefore there is no question for Eigenmann that he will continue to rely on this car brand. His car, however, suffered a total loss in the crash. “Let’s see what the insurance can pay for.”
