What is FSD?

Formerly known as FSD Beta, Tesla now refers to the software as “Supervised FSD” to make clear that the software does not turn Teslas into autonomous vehicles and that human drivers must still supervise the driving software not so autonomous.

FSD is no longer in beta today and can handle some advanced driving tasks such as changing lanes, navigating around vehicles and objects, following a driver’s navigation route, and more.

Is it 100% autonomous driving?

Is autonomous driving on a Tesla really relevant? If we refer to the six different levels of autonomous driving, the count is not there.

A subscription for 99 dollars per month

The FSD subscription will therefore cost 99 dollars per month (approximately 93 euros excluding tax/month), which represents a significant price drop compared to previously announced costs. This price drop also applies to Canada, where FSD is available.

Tesla does not appear to have changed the cost of a one-time purchase of FSD, which still stands at $12,000 in the United States.

However, it should be noted that the price of the option is linked to the car and not to the user account, which means that it would take 10 years to pay off. Consumers will therefore be more inclined to opt for a monthly subscription rather than a one-off purchase.

A price drop coinciding with software updates

The FSD price cut comes the same week Tesla released more changes to its latest V12 version of the software for some users. Tesla says the latest software upgrades improve FSD’s city street driving capability to run entirely on neural networks.

The FSD in Europe and France?

It should be noted that FSD is not yet fully authorized in Europe.

In France, the options are indeed in beta, but they display a price which is not: 7,500 euros in France for the fully autonomous driving capability, which today offers nothing more than the Improved Autopilot (3,800 euros) apart from the reaction to traffic lights and stop signs. These prices and features apply in France, where their usefulness is really not guaranteed.

The main advantage of FSD as it exists in the United States lies in the car’s ability to make decisions without driver action (changing lanes, putting on a turn signal, taking a roundabout autonomously, etc.), And it should still not be allowed by the end of 2024.
