New year, new increase for the famous FSD (fully autonomous driving capacity in France) of the American manufacturer. What annoy many owners, who for the moment still do not see any real added value in acquiring this option.
Since the fall of 2021, it is possible for some Tesla drivers in the USA to take advantage of the beta version of the autonomous driving capability. The prerequisite: to have paid for the option, or to be subscribed to it, and to obtain a fairly high safety score proving that you drive fairly carefully.
Listed at $ 10,000 in purchase, or $ 200 per month in subscription, this fully autonomous driving capability will see its price increase by 20% in the United States by the end of next week, as has indicated the CEO of the brand, Elon Musk.
An unjustified price increase for many
If some influencers have been praising autonomous driving at Tesla for some time, it is clear that the brand’s customers do not all hear it in the same way. On Reddit in particular, many drivers are raising their voice to show their dissatisfaction with repeated price increases without real justification.

Although the beta version is accessible to some, the ability of vehicles to navigate in an urban environment in a semi-autonomous manner remains unsatisfactory in reading customer feedback. Many consider the current price of 10,000 dollars excessive for the level of autonomous driving of Tesla today, and absolutely do not understand the increase to 12,000 dollars announced by Elon Musk.
A rate change reserved in the United States for the moment
Following the announcement of the upcoming tariff increase, the boss of the firm clarified that this only concerned the United States, given that for all other countries, the beta version is not available. , and that there would thus be no justification to increase the price of an almost useless option.
However, if history repeats itself, we should see an increase in tariffs in France within a few months as well, as was the case with previous increases. The “fully autonomous driving capability” option is now billed 7,500 euros in France, and still struggles to show a real interest. But if Elon Musk is to be believed, that could change next spring, as he has recently announced via Twitter. Hopefully this will be verified quickly.
