Tesla posts impressive results but remains cautious for 2022

While waiting for Elon Musk to speak, the results for the fourth quarter of 2021 have been published. These results exceeded analysts’ estimates despite the problems of shortages that have plagued the auto industry. The American manufacturer nevertheless remains very cautious about the year 2022.

As expected, Tesla released its financial figures for the fourth quarter of 2021. Revenue reached $17.72 billion, compared to $10.74 billion a year earlier.

Results above expectations

Net income rose 760% to a total of $2.32 billion, while adjusted earnings per share came in at $2.54, above the forecast of $2.37. A much higher amount than analysts expected. We could therefore expect a good reaction from the stock market, but this was not necessarily the case.

These graphs relate to vehicles delivered or even profits over 12 rolling months (TTM). As we already knew, Tesla approached one million vehicles sold in 2021.

Indeed, despite stronger than expected results, Tesla’s stock market action shook. The American automaker has highlighted bottlenecks in the global supply chain that will have a significant impact on its performance in 2022.

“2021 has been a breakthrough year for Tesla. There should no longer be any doubt about the viability and profitability of electric vehicles”

Even if Tesla has an unprecedented ability to adapt, the American brand remains strongly affected by the current crisis.

The published document is very complete, it gives many data concerning the activity of Tesla. We can thus have a confirmation that the Model Y will indeed be produced in the factories of Berlin in Germany and Texas in the United States.

The return of the Tesla Semi

Among the photos present in the financial document, there is a photo of the Tesla Semis. Still, there’s no word on the production status of the electric truck. This truck has already been delayed several times, as it was originally supposed to go on sale in 2019.

New prototypes have been spotted around the Gigafactory in Nevada over the past few months, and Pepsico’s CEO has even said he expects to receive his first Tesla Semi trucks by the end of the year.

The last photo shows one of the innovations featured in the new Model Y. With the structural battery pack made from the floor of the vehicle body, Tesla can attach the seats directly to it to simplify the assembly process.

Tesla also says they’ve done better than most automakers in dealing with supply chain issues by using less rare chips and quickly rewriting software to accommodate shortages.

Elon Musk has planned to speak during the more formal presentation of these results. There will no doubt be announcements to follow, including the new entry-level car.
