In a post on Twitter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced bad news for all future owners of Tesla vehicles. The option that gives access to fully autonomous driving, or Full Self-Driving, will see its price increase to 15,000 dollarscompared to 12,000 dollars currently.

The company originally charged $5,000 for access to the FSD beta, then raised that price to $10,000 in October 2020, before hitting $12,000 last January. Today she plans toincrease the cost of the extension by an additional $3,000 after FSD 10.69.2 beta is deployed.

From September 5, new Tesla owners will therefore have to free themselves from the new tariff if they want their Tesla to be able to drive almost autonomously for them.

Musk clarifies that current price of $12,000 will be honored for orders placed before September 5, but delivered later. In other words, US customers who were thinking about buying a Tesla in the next few weeks had better place their order as soon as possible.

For several months, the automaker has also offered drivers across the Atlantic the possibility of not paying for this service all at once, but rather of taking out a $199 per month subscription to Tesla to benefit from this functionality. Elon Musk has not yet revealed whether or not the subscription will undergo a price increase, but it’s a safe bet that this one is going to get more expensive over the next few weeks.

Musk called Tesla vehicles ” goods that appreciate meaning that the value of the cars will increase as Tesla launches new driver assistance features. The CEO has already announced that the value of fully autonomous driving could exceed $100,000 as the system matures.
