This is probably a whim that should only concern two people, and yet it impacts millions of customers. Elon Musk and Bob Iger, CEO of Tesla and Disney respectively, are at odds. During the last software update of its vehicles, Tesla therefore removed Disney+ from the infotainment system. Fortunately, we can recover it.
For some time now, Elon Musk has been at odds with Disney boss Bob Iger. He sent her a message directly during a recent interview, unequivocally, showing that the two men can no longer stand each other.
This quarrel between billionaires could have gone no further, except that on Teslas, there was until now a shortcut to the Disney+ streaming service. Disney having decided to drastically reduce its advertising budget on X – the social network owned by none other than Elon Musk – Tesla responded by removing Disney+ from its cars. Would it be denigrating to say that all this is petty?
Disney+ disappeared from my Tesla: how to recover it?
On a Tesla, when parked, it is possible to use the cinema application to display shortcuts to some popular entertainment applications. For example, we find YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, and so far, Disney+.
But with the arrival of update 2023.44.30, the latter has disappeared. As is often the case with Tesla, if the additions are relatively well documented in the release note, what is removed is not, and it is the users who discover it in spite of themselves.
To still watch a film or series on the Disney platform, it’s not very complicated, even if it means using the web browser, as you can see below. Once you go to the Disney website with the browser, the application magically reappears in your Tesla!
It is therefore not a question of a total ban on Disney+ by Tesla, but quite simply of make it a little more difficult for customers to use it by hiding the default shortcut.
As a reminder, it is possible on most online video sites (MyCanal, Plex, Amazon Prime Video, etc.) to use the browser to use them in full screen. The Cinema application is only a display of shortcuts directly in full screen, and is therefore not an exhaustive list of sites that can be consulted.
