Tesla tackles Toyota with a Cybertruck disguised as a Tundra


Definitely, Tesla has been a little teasing with its main competitors lately. After affixing a camouflage on the Cybertruck which was strongly reminiscent of the Ford F150, the brand has just thumbed its nose at one of the biggest sellers of pick-ups in the United States: Toyota.

Barring a bad surprise, we should finally witness the arrival on the market in 2023 of the Cybertruck, the famous futuristic electric pickup from Tesla announced in 2019. In recent weeks, the Cybertruck has made some notable outings on American roads, especially in Palo Alto where users were able to see the beast with new hubcaps.

Lately, a video of the Cybertruck assembly line has been shared on the web. The opportunity for Internet users to confirm the presence of a tiny front trunk on the electric pickup. Anyway, we are probably in the last straight line before the release of the Cybertruck and Tesla is taking advantage of the situation to tickle its competitors.

Indeed, Tesla has been putting on its finest troll costume lately to poke fun at the nation’s major pickup dealers. A few weeks ago, we were able to see in a garage a Cybertruck that looked like two drops of water to a Ford F150. It was obviously a skin developed by Tesla.

But this time, the vehicle has a completely different look. This time, the target seems to be Toyotasince the Cybertruck looks just like a Tundraone of the best-selling electric pickups in the United States with approximately 100,000 units per year.

You will understand, it is a small tackle slipped to the Japanese manufacturer. Let us recall in passing that the two brands have a brief common history, since the Japanese brand bought a 3% stake in the capital of Tesla in 2010, which then allowed the American manufacturer to benefit from a check for 50 million dollars. The sum was invested in the acquisition of the former NUMMI factory, which we know today as the Fremont Gigafactory.

After selling all of its shares at the end of 2016, Toyota is now drawing inspiration from Tesla’s manufacturing techniques to reduce the price of its electric cars. Indeed, the company has announced that it wants to adopt the Giga Press, while pooling (the creation and sharing of a new platform for its electric cars) is already on the table.
