France is also entitled to the long-range Tesla Model Y, at a price that is completely fair. Thanks to the ecological bonus, the electric vehicle is getting closer to the 40,000 euro mark.

Shaken by layoffs and ever more pressing Chinese competition, Tesla had an ace up its sleeve: the Model Y Long Range Propulsion. The American manufacturer announced this Wednesday, April 17, 2024, its launch in France. The car has an announced range of 600 km, with a price barely higher than the classic model. An aggressive strategy that could well pay off for Elon Musk’s firm.

A Tesla with greater autonomy and a very attractive price

Although it arrives later than our neighbors on the Old Continent, the aptly named Tesla Model Y Propulsion à Grande Autonomie is finally offered to French consumers. On the menu, a vehicle sold at 46,990 euros, excluding ecological bonus, and a range of 600 km announced during the approval cycle.

Let’s talk about money right away: as you know, the ecological bonus is still in force, even if it has been capped at 4,000 euros for the year 2024. After deduction, the long-range Tesla Y therefore does not cost more than 42,990 euros. At that price, this version is only 2,000 more expensive than the Model Y.

In return, this long-range Tesla Y has 145 km of additional capacity, compared to its big sister, which is not negligible. This is therefore rather well received from the American manufacturer, which nevertheless had to make some sacrifices to allow an increase in autonomy at a very competitive price.

Tesla equips its Model Y Long Range Propulsion with a single engine

To achieve such a result, the car had to be made lighter. The long-range Tesla Model Y only has a single motor, “ combined with a high energy density battery pack, a standard heat pump and low rolling resistance tires which optimize consumption – 14.9 kWh/100 km – thus setting a new benchmark in cost per kilometer in the electric SUV market », Tells us the manufacturer.

Tesla promises a climb from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds (compared to 6.9 seconds for the Model Y Propulsion version). We will add, finally, that the manufacturer undoubtedly aims to compete head-on with the long-range Renault Scénic, sold at exactly the same price, but with a slightly greater range (625 km). Tesla, for its part, enjoys a much more attractive entertainment offering, and a much faster charging time.
