A functional Optimus robot could land during the second edition of Tesla AI Day. However, the star needs a little extra prep time…

In a tweet posted a few hours ago, Elon Musk announced the postponement of Tesla AI Day. But, with this ability that some have to pass a defeat for a victory, or a postponement for an advance, the billionaire justifies this adjournment by a compelling reason: these few weeks of additional rab would make it possible to present a prototype of functional Optimus .

September 30 instead of August 19

A fortnight ago, already on Twitter, Elon Musk announced that the second edition of the Tesla AI Day event would be held on August 19, one year after the first edition. As its name suggests, this event is dedicated to artificial intelligence, a field that concerns autonomous driving, but also Tesla’s humanoid robot, called Tesla Bot, or Optimus for friends.

You can change the date on your calendar, since the event is postponed to the end of September, the 30th, to be precise. But, as mentioned above, Elon Musk presents this report as ” a bad for a good “: ” Tesla AI Day is pushed back to September 30, as it’s possible an Optimus prototype will work by then. »

As always with billionaire claims, receive this one with some caution. In addition, it was hard to see the Tesla AI Day event overshadowing the Tesla Bot. In any case, he would have been the star of the presentation. As the pace of this event seems set to be annual, you have two options: the functional Optimus robot is either a month and a half behind, or a year ahead. We leave it to you to decide.

Start of production scheduled for next year

Still, at the beginning of the year, the CEO of Tesla announced that the robot was becoming a priority for the company. More recently, in April, he showed his desire to start production of Optimus from 2023.

Initially, this robot should be limited to relatively basic and standardized tasks such as manufacturing operations. Ultimately, Tesla has more evolved ambitions for Optimus. The future will tell if the company’s roboticists manage to materialize the dreams of Elon Musk.

New element of response on September 30 rather than August 15, therefore.
