TEST Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, a flashy PS5 and Xbox Series X edition?

Remember, in 2020, bandai namco took out a dragonball awaited by a lot of fans on playstation, Xbox and PC, the famous Kakarot. This is a Action RPG rather pleasant which makes it possible to discover the dragon world in another facet. In 2021, the title was entitled to a suitable Switch port (read our test), this time, it’s the turn of the PS5 and the Xbox Series to enjoy a new version. We were able to taste this edition, what to titillate the peepers?

A more charming and comfortable experience.

Let’s go straight to the point, the developers didn’t take a lot of thought… Indeed, small elements have been added here and there in the sets. The rock is slightly better worked, the vegetation is denser (depending on the place, not everywhere), some light effects seem brighter, the water is more graceful and… that’s it. The studio could have taken advantage of this port to modify visual aspects that make aficionados cringe somewhat, namely the design of the characters and remove the kind of yellowish aura that sticks to the skin of our heroes. Some firms take advantage of this “transition” to next gen to adjust the unpleasant points noted by the community. For Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotunfortunately, CyberConnect2 contented himself with the minimum. Too bad.

Also, two visual modes are available in the settings. First of all, we have Performance which allows to have a frame rate stable within 60 fps. The fluidity is really good for the game, the fights are more pleasant, as well as the exploration. then, we have Quality. Here the rendering is a bit sharper, the background is less blurry, the landscapes are a little more flashy. The number of frames per second, he wavers in the 30 fps; if the sets are empty, the frame rate seems to increase a little bit. For once, we recommend to play it in Performancethe graphics are clean and the 60 fps provide additional comfort in terms of handling.

Then, and unsurprisingly, load times are now fast. Transitions between each environment are either done with a snap of the fingers (in one or two seconds) or instantly. What a relief ! And for those who were worried, don’t panic, transferring your progress/save is easy. In the title screen, just select the appropriate option, no more and no less.

What about this new version? Yes, it’s nicer to have various visual additions in the backgrounds and a more elegant image, but we would not have been against a few adjustments to the appearance of our saiyajin adored. At least, issues like long loading times and lags have been ironed out to enjoy a more charming and comfortable experience. Finally, if you have Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot at home (PS4 or Xbox One), know one thing, the “next-gen” update is free, which is a good point.

You can buy Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot €29.99 at Fnac.
