TEST Kirby and the forgotten world: a little freshness does not hurt

who does not know Kirby today ? This adorable little pink ball of nintendo has been entitled to different variations over the generations. The Japanese firm changes tone and universe by offering players a new way to have fun and new worlds to explore. So, no more 2D, we give way to 3D. We have dissected Kirby and the Forgotten World in all directions, it is therefore time to give you our impressions. So, were we charmed?

It is a real delight for the eyes.

Not to change, the visual part is the first point that jumps out at us. A rendering that pleases the peepers? Right here, we say goodbye to joyful and wacky environments, the title exhibits apocalyptic levels that take place in our world. Thus, we discover strange places, such as shopping malls dominated by fauna and flora, an abandoned amusement park or even frozen cities. The artistic direction is pleasant and different from what we can usually see.

Also, we played it in mode TV. Although the game is very colorful and cute to eat, some imperfections are visible. First, there is a bit ofaliasing. Then, and depending on the location, we noticed a little popping. The backgrounds are slightly blurred with a frame rate very low. In fashion Portableit is a real delight for the eyes. The image is finer, more pleasant, the small defects are no longer present, it’s a joy.

In terms of the soundtrack, our esgourdes revel in little jazzy music, often in line with the theme of a level. A striking point, the developers had fun taking up some notes from yesteryear to modernize them and mix them with catchy melodies; it’s going really well. As for sound effects, we find the sound effects of the franchisenothing to disorient us on that side.

As we said, Kirby and the Forgotten World is a 3D game. The stages are identical, we start from point A to reach point B, while finding passages, secrets on our way, and achieving small objectives. The grip is simplistic and instinctiveif you’ve ever played a platform game, you’ll find your bearings very quickly.

Acquired skills can evolve to become even more powerful.

For the design of this new universe, the team clearly did not take the lead and based itself on a “Super Mario”. Thereby, we wander on a world map showing several areas that open up as the quests are completed. Small bonuses are scattered and hidden everywhere, so do not hesitate to take a look around before entering a level.

Kirby can, if not to change, absorb his opponents and sting their powers. Something rather amusing and new, acquired abilities can evolve to become even more powerful. We must then find scrolls, rare stars, and accumulate coins to unlock new skills. It’s really fun.

Obviously, who says new world, says new gameplay. The pink ball can also absorb everyday objects to turn into something wacky. As ? A car, a light bulb, a can dispenser and many other things. Thanks to these new forms, we can carry out riddles, challenges, or even find hiding places. The controls are entertaining and avoid boredom for once. It’s funny and funny.

Kirby and his friends are strolling on the Planet Pop, when suddenly a strange vortex appears in the sky, sucking in our young hero and his comrades. The pink ball then discovers a whole new universe, different from its own, where nature has taken back its rights. Malevolent beings are prowling around and have captured the Waddle Dees. We go to save them, accompanied by a new (and cute) companion, Elfillin.

Monotony is clearly out of the question.

There is no narrative accompanied by cutscenes (too bad). The story is very basic. and only a pretext to immerse the player in less folkloric settings, as we knew them until now. Do not panic, an answer is given on the why and how concerning this world is devastated, but we leave the pleasure of discovery to you. You will therefore have understood it, we are leaving to deliver the Waddle Dees which are scattered in the different levels. These allow us to progress by opening new areas. To get to the end of the tunnel, also counting the “after” (we won’t say more), we spent a good ten hours.

This lifespan can inflate by also completing the hidden stages and going to your village. The more you free Waddle Dees, the larger the small town. In the vicinity, there are a whole bunch of crazy mini games. On one side we have the house of Kirby where we can exhibit figurines that we collect, on the other, small huts to relax. A board game using the gyroscope, a coliseum to fight it out, a restaurant to prepare menus… Monotony is clearly not part of the party. Plus, if you’re bored on your own, you can unplug the Joy-Con to play local co-op with a friend. In the top !

With Kirby and the Forgotten World, nintendo does not revolutionize the genre, but breaks the codes of the franchise a bit, and that feels good. We had fears about the universe, in the end, we had a good time and, let’s not be afraid to say it, we had a hard time letting go.

The more we advance, the more the game becomes a bit demanding, forcing us to develop our skills. Honestly, the idea is good! With the addition of the new powers, we have not seen the time pass. It’s so entertaining that we returned to this “forgotten world” after the final credits passed. In other words, it’s the type of production that we love to breathe a little and to escape, without worrying too much. In short, to try it is to adopt it.
