TEST The Sims 4 Marriage: when marriage rhymes with carnage

A beautiful wedding, that makes you dream. The fancy dresses, the pretty decorations, the moving ceremony, the delicious dishes assembled with elegance… The Sims 4 Wedding promise to enrich the wedding celebrations, already available in the base game, to make them true unmissable events. But, as in a “real” marriage, nothing can go as planned D-day…

Quality trumps quantity.

Let’s start with the positive. A pleasant surprise when discovering the new elements of the CUS: on the women’s side, about twenty dresses are available in many colors. They have all their own style, whether rather classic, sober, modern, eccentric or traditional. In short, there’s something for everyone ! All have one thing in common, however: they are elegant and quite well worked. On the other hand, a few black dots come (already) to obscure the picture. It appears that some robes still have the creation “traits” that normally appear during development. A traditional type top even displays a kind of grid, which is not present on the fabric of the associated skirt. Apart from that, the variety of outfits and styles is a good point.

It should be emphasized: the new elements of the mode Construction were really well detailed. Quality takes precedence over quantity, of course, but it was almost essential for a game pack of this kind. Whether furniture, objects or decorations, emphasis was placed on elegance. Draping and flowers are in the spotlight, in mostly pastel tones. Cultural objects are also present, such as tea sets and decorative panels with Asian and Oriental accents. Special mention for the magnificent grand piano and the plant pergola. The advantage of most of these objects is that they can easily be reused in many other contexts.

Now let’s get to the heart of the matter: the gameplay. Because it is indeed a game pack, above all. First, we discover that it is possible toorganize new events in connection with marriage, such as a bachelor party SIM, a family reunion or even a rehearsal dinner. The idea is very good in itself. However, by selecting the type of activity to be carried out during the event, we realize that apart from the wedding ceremony itself, all “special” activities offered are the same such as eating, drinking, dancing, toasting, etc. A small difference, even slight, between the event types would have been appreciated, especially sincethere was potential especially for bachelor parties SIM. Afterwards, we are free to do what we want during these events… It is also possible to ask other sims to be his witness, his person in charge of flowers or alliances. But we will see further than it didn’t help much…

The CUS and Build Mode elements are definitely worth a shot.

As for the new city, tartosait is clear that it is a very picturesque and bucolic place, perfect for a wedding. Inspired by Italian coastal villages, it offers a large beach and beautiful scenery, such as cobbled streets and bridges. What to make pretty pictures! Community venues are also very cool, with the ability to assign a new land type for wedding venues. There are even shops to prepare for the wedding (not visitable, unfortunately), such as a wedding dress store, a pastry shop, a florist. Decor level, it must be said that everything is well done.

After a few preparatory events, D-Day arrives… and that’s where the Athenians met. Nothing goes as planned. When setting up the event, it is possible to ask guests to come dressed with a particular style and in specific tones. Results : all arrived in daily dress, without respecting the color either. In terms of wedding photos, it’s not great… The fiancés are not in their outfits either. Or, we take the opportunity to have them go up to their respective spaces to change in front of a beautiful mirror. We then try to gather everyone in front of the arch, outside in the garden, so that the guests begin to take their places. That was without counting the fact that there was another arch on the ground, in the main building… in front of which everyone gathered because she was probably closer to them. The only solution to get all guests to the desired location (and again, only those that weren’t dispelled) was to remove the unwanted arch via Build Mode.

Then, we are given the possibility to move up or down the aisle to sims of our choice according to their role (bearer of alliances, witness, etc.). Except that didn’t work either. The sims remain in front of the ark waiting endlessly… We somehow manage to get the engaged couple to come to the foot of the ark and get them to exchange their vows. But at the crucial moment when the newlyweds exchange their kiss, a bug occurs and the groom’s head turns around like in a horror movie. So romantic… Then comes the moment of throwing the bouquet, that never happened in the end. Unable to collect all sims in the same place and the bride waits endlessly. So we can’t tell you if the animation is going well or not. As for the first dance, after having succeeded in reuniting the two newlyweds on the dance floor, there are jerky movements due to another bug who extend the arms of our sims. A few movements later, everything returns to normal and our newlyweds can finally dance their quiet slow dance… Phew! The only animation that went well as planned on our side is the cutting of the first part of the cake by the two bride and groom. A very cute scene, it must be said.

It was far from the best day of our simscorn the various animation bugs will have paid us a good slice of fun despite the frustration. On the other hand, the elements of CUS and Build mode are definitely worth it. The developers have already become aware of the malfunctions and plan to fix it soon. So it might be better to wait for the bugs to be resolved before acquiring the game pack. The Sims 4 Wedding.
