TESTIMONY. “I adopted Chacha, a retired camel-dromedary despite my husband’s doubts”

For four years, in the Norman garden of Fleur-Angélique reigns … a dromedary!

Fleur-Angélique’s real job is to breed miniature donkeys, but we mostly talk to her about the intruder: her dromedary! “Often, I see the cars slowing down in front of my house, heads turn and sometimes someone comes to investigate his well-being: ‘Tell me, is this dromedary not cold in Normandy?’ or ‘Is that legal?’ I explain first that Chacha is a camel-dromedary, born of a mixed marriage, since I have it adopted legally to offer him happy retirement ! ” Chacha, 20, is a retiree from the circus, and Fleur-Angélique, 34, succumbed to the crush for 3,500 €, without regrets.

“I congratulate myself every day when I look out the window in the morning, saying to myself: ‘Incredible, a dromedary in my garden!'” The climate of the Pays d’Auge is milder than that of Africa, 40 ° C, or Asia, – 40 ° C, where it comes from. “There’s only one thing he might not like, it’s the continuous rain,” says Fleur, who has become an expert thanks to the advice of an international specialist in the breed. But her fur of 12 cm of thickness is worth a good pelisse. “

Chacha can’t stand being locked up. He even knows how to open the doors if necessary

Anyway, when you lock up Chacha in winter, he breaks everything in his shed. “Besides, he’s a hyperintelligent animal, he even knows how to open doors!”, proudly adds his mistress. The most dubious, when Fleur adopted Chacha, was Alexandre, her husband, who did not expect, meeting her in Paris while she was working in a garden center, to what she claimed from nature full time, then a miniature colt, then two, until soon ten!

“I was not working. He is in the business, but did not want to kill himself at work to have a menagerie!” This is how Fleur-Angélique had the idea to start in the breeding of this rare and select breed of donkeys (elevage-anesminiatures.com), so that animal sales offset expenses. It has become … almost true! “Another effort and I will get a minimum wage in exchange for my busy working days without RTT!”, she laughs.

Amadoué, Fleur’s husband dreams of adopting an ostrich …

When she was little, she had already succeeded in forcing her parents to breed guinea pigs thanks to a trick: in exchange for the last-borns, the local garden center offered her food! Proof that Alexander allows himself to be softened: he dreams of an ostrich. Only, for this to be done legally, you need a certificate of competence, and “That would be too much. We also have two dogs, two hypoallergenic curly mares, and the king of the jungle, our 2 year old son.”

He, Raphael, already brushes and feeds the animals, but you shouldn’t talk to him about going to the nursery. He doesn’t keep locked up any more than Chacha in his shed. Chacha, a “big plush” of 800 kg, all the same, deemed not to be convenient, but which “lies down on the floor when he sees me coming so that I scratch his stomach and thighs”, smiles Fleur-Angélique, completely … tamed!
