Texas: woman arrested for forcing her daughter to live with her father’s body

A woman was arrested and imprisoned on Tuesday January 18 in Texas, after the police discovered that she was forcing her 11-year-old daughter to live with the rotting corpse of her father for several weeks.

The police chief of Electra, a small town in North Texas, said he went with his teammates to the home of Susan Que Smith on 1er last December, after a report. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were puzzled by the foul odor and flies emanating from the apartment, and rang the doorbell with no response. They then made the decision to enter by force.

It was then that they discovered the decomposing corpse of a man in a hallway, covered with a blanket and garbage bags, according to local press. Absent from the home when the police entered, Susan Que Smith and her daughter arrived at the scene shortly after. The mother then explained to the police that it was the father of her daughter.

She then explained to the police that she had not declared her death for fear of being evicted from her home. An arrest warrant had been issued on January 13 against her, and the woman was arrested and imprisoned for endangering a child, falsifying evidence and not declaring death.

The home was also filled with garbage, and did not have running water, and was deemed “unlivable”, according to the police report to which the television channel KFDX-TV, of the NBC network had access. The 11-year-old girl was taken into the care of social services and taken to hospital as she had infections from insect bites.
