The Thai massage (NUAD Thai) follows a certain basic idea of Chinese medicine: prevention. Treatment should take place when the disease has not yet developed properly. The roots of Thai massage lie in Ayurvedic medicine, as it originated in India more than 2,500 years ago. In the course of the centuries there were also influences from Chinese medicine.

This is how a Thai body massage works

The Thai massage is really physically down to earth: the Thai masseur kneads you according to all the rules of the art. He or she doesn't just use his or her hands for this. It is pressed with the elbows, the forearms rolled over the skin or the back is worked on with the feet.

The Thai massage is a mixture of acupressure, reflexology, yoga, energy work and meditation. In Thailand it is performed on a mat on the floor. Extra-wide massage tables have also become established in Europe. This allows the masseur to use his whole body weight. The person being massaged remains lightly clothed. No massage oil is used. That would reduce the grip strength during the massage.

Difference from other body massages

In contrast to classic western forms of massage, the Thai massage is not based on the anatomy of the human body, but on the so-called meridians (energy lines) of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The masseur kneads local points, which should also have a positive effect on internal organs through their remote action.

NUAD Thai consists of numerous stretching and stretching movements as well as different printing techniques. The masseur uses the palms of the hands, thumbs, feet, elbows and knees. Depending on the degree of tension, this can cause slight pain. Typical of the Thai massage is the so-called walking. The masseur walks on the body with his hands or feet.

How does the Thai massage work?

A Thai massage promotes blood flow to the skin, connective tissue and muscles. The muscles are stretched and strengthened, the spine relieved and the range of motion expanded. It harmonizes the blood flow and activates the lymph flow. It is particularly effective for head and neck pain, chronic back pain and physical and mental overexertion. But NUAD Thai also helps with digestive problems, sleep disorders and inner restlessness. Deep breathing and calm, flowing movements create extensive relaxation. Body and mind can relax and gain new strength. A regular Thai massage is therefore particularly recommended for the prevention of diseases.

Duration and cost of the Thai massage

A holistic traditional Thai massage can last up to three hours. The usual amount in this country is one to two hours. A treatment costs between 30 and 90 euros, depending on the duration. Statutory health insurance companies have not yet paid for Thai massage, although it is valued as a form of therapy by many doctors and spa clinics.
