Thales: Lucy, the rolling lab, has arrived at Innotrans

(CercleFinance.com) – For the first time, Lucy, the rolling laboratory of Thales, traveled to InnoTrans implementing its autonomous functionalities.

Lucy’s journey began on September 2 in Neustadt to travel to Berlin at the InnoTrans trade show where visitors will be able to discover Thales’s state-of-the-art autonomy solutions.

Built in 1994, Lucy is Thales’ rolling laboratory for testing all on-board rail systems.

With its train management and control system, its driver assistance system, its cellular remote monitoring equipment, its geolocation sensors, Lucy is able to determine its own position and speed very precisely.

In the future, it will be able to detect the presence of objects on or near the track, recognize them and react accordingly.

Autonomy offers both energy savings and performance improvements with better punctuality. Rail consumes 12 times less energy and emits up to 11 times less CO2 per passenger-kilometre than cars.
