(Boursier.com) — Thales wins a new contract with the Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) to design and build Line 4 of the Cairo Metro. With its partners Orascom Construction and Colas Rail, Thales signs a turnkey contract (design, supply, deployment and maintenance for two years) to supply advanced and integrated digital solutions for telecommunications, centralized control and ticketing systems.

Phase 1 of Metro Line 4 will connect downtown Cairo to the pyramid complex of Giza, located southwest of the capital. This important axis will facilitate the movement of people in one of the most congested cities in Egypt. This line should also be heavily used by tourists, since it will connect the site of the pyramids and the future Grand Egyptian Museum. This new project is a strategic pillar that will allow the continued growth of the Cairo metro network.

As part of this project, Thales will supply and install all the integrated communication and supervision systems (radio system, multiservice platform, telephone and wireless LAN networks on the track, track equipment for safety systems, display and distribution of passenger information via loudspeakers, operations control center) as well as ticketing solutions.

Phase 2 of Line 4 of the Cairo Metro will take place later, with the deployment of an additional 23.5 km of line, 19 stations and 92 trains.

This contract confirms Thales’s strong commitment to NAT in the development of the Cairo metro, as well as Thales’ 30-year-old presence in the Egyptian public transport market, with Thales experts having already provided the first ticketing system for line 1 and the integrated communication, supervision and ticketing solutions for lines 2 and 3.
