Meta is rolling out the v41 update to its Meta Quest headsets and announcing two major new features. You will finally no longer be alone in the Meta Horizon Home, the headset’s home hub. Also, parental control is improving with new means of monitoring.
After v39 which added multitasking mode and mountain scenery and after v40 which brought individual app unlocking as well as secure payments, v41 of Meta Quest is coming. Meta announces the deployment of two functions, relating to Meta Horizon Home and parental control.
You will no longer be alone in Meta Horizon Home
As a reminder, Horizon is the software that brings together all the virtual reality experiences of Meta Quest, Horizon Home being the hub main, the first thing you see when you put on the virtual reality headset. Parental controls are getting stronger in Meta Quest
Meta completes its parental monitoring system with new features, knowing that Meta Quest devices “are only intended for use by persons aged 13 and over“. On the program, the possibility of blocking specific applications (browser, applications from the Meta Quest Store).
To go further in blocking applications, some may not be installed by default, depending on the age of the children. For teenagers over 13 years old, they will have tosubmit an application access request, which triggers a notification to their parents“. This isn’t the only notification parents may receive. Meta provides that the latter receivepurchase notificationsthat alert them when children make purchases. Finally, they will be able to consult the list of children’s friends, but also see the time spent on the helmet via the Oculus mobile application. Meta announces plans for other parental supervision tools based on feedback.
