The 2021 Christmas bonus paid at the beginning of January to new beneficiaries of social minima

Recipients of RSA, ASS and AER are entitled to this assistance. The basic amount is 152.45 euros.

If the christmas bonus 2021 has arrived, as usual, in the bank accounts of beneficiaries from December 15, this is not the case for all. For the new beneficiaries of the social minima retained (RSA, ASS and AER), who have received one of these aids since only December, the payment is later. The bonus will be transferred to their account at the beginning of January.

This aid is paid by Caf and Pôle emploi to 2.3 million households. This year, the amount of the premium is unchanged compared to 2020 and 2019, i.e. 152.45 euros for a single person. It has not been modified for over 10 years.

Note that this premium can be combined with the inflation allowance of 100 euros, paid to those who receive less than 2,000 euros net per month. For these two services, there is no need to take any steps.

Christmas bonus: for whom?

This year, the Christmas bonus will concern those who receive one of the following aids: the active solidarity income (RSA), the specific solidarity allowance (ASS) and the retirement equivalent allowance (AER). Or 2.3 million households.

Christmas bonus: how much?

For people who touch ASS or AER, the amount of aid is fixed, regardless of the number of people in the household. Or 152.45 euros, an amount unchanged since 2009.

For the RSA beneficiaries, the amount varies according to the composition of the household. A single person without children will receive 152.45 euros in 2021. A couple with two children 320.14 euros. This amount will rise to 518.33 euros for a single parent with six children. Some 60.98 euros will then be paid per additional person.

The Christmas bonus is a boost for the most fragile households before the end of the year holidays. It reflects the government’s commitment to support the purchasing power of households with modest incomes, a fortiori in the context of the health and social crisis induced by the Covid-19 epidemic.“, Underlined the Ministry of Solidarity last year.

At the end of July 2021, 1.95 million households were receiving the RSA, down 4.6% over one year according to the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees). “The workforce continued to decline during the first half of 2021 (120,500 beneficiaries less between the end of December 2020 and the end of June 2021, i.e. a drop of 5.9%) before rising again in July (+15,200 beneficiaries compared to the month of June )», Details the note of September 2021 of the Drees.

According to an INSEE study from November 2021, the number of poor people remained stable in France in 2020 compared to 2019 (9.3 million people). The exceptional aid measures put in place since the start of the health crisis would have played their role of safety net. Without them, there would have been 400,000 “poorMore in 2020. A figure in trompe-l’œil, which many associations refute because it would not take those who come off the radar.
