When it comes to value for money, no service beats Orléans Métropole in Europe; not even Lidl and even less Tesla Supercharger. Let Elon Musk take advantage of this.

In France, 2023 was a record year for electric car sales. If you have such a car, you may be using the Chargemap service (or Freshmile to name another competitor) to find a station and make payment. The mobility operator has just revealed its ranking of the best charging networks in Europe, which includes a focus on France as well as Belgium.

Three distinct rankings

This ranking takes the form of a Top 10. To prioritize it, Chargemap took into account 390,000 notes posted on its service between April 20, 2023 and December 31, 2023 inclusive; they come from 112,000 users.

For a charging network to be considered, it must have received at least 1,000 ratings in France, and 300 in Belgium. Nothing surprising: France had 68.4 million inhabitants in 2023, Belgium rather 11.7 million. As for the fleet of electric vehicles, it would be around 1.5 million in France at the end of 2023 (100% electric + plug-in hybrids) compared to around ten times less in Belgium.

Chargemap has put together three rankings. One focuses on the “overall charging experience”; another on “on the reliability of the equipment”; the last relates to the quality/price ratio.

Winners necessarily very different depending on the criteria taken into account

On a European scale, Tesla Supercharger stands out as the charging network offering the best charging experience. The Dutch Fastned climbs to second place; Electra, for which you can consult our opinion, completes the podium.

Still in this category of “best experience”, but in France, we find the same three headliners, but Fastned is ahead of Tesla.

In Belgium, as on the other side of the border, Fastned remains the leader, followed by DATS24 (mainly established in the country) and Electra.

Regarding the ranking measuring the quality of the infrastructure (which includes different criteria, including ease of use, power delivered or even the condition of the terminal and cables), Fastned dominates in Europe. Tesla Supercharger is second, and Electra third. The podium is identical in France, while the Belgians still favor Fastned, but place Electra in second and DATS24 in third position.

Finally, the last index concerns the quality/price ratio. Even on a European scale, it is Orléans Métropole which is the best student (a service logically limited to the Métropole concerned). It outperforms NW IECharge and Lidl.

Unsurprisingly, we find the same hierarchy in France, while in Belgium, the top three is logically different with Lidl in first place, followed by EnergyDrive then Diego Luxembourg.
