While on vacation in Bali, actress Mathilda May caught the dengue fever virus. Hospitalized, she announced on Instagram that she would soon be repatriated and took the opportunity to deliver a strong message on the French hospital system.

Luck is not on his side. In march 2020, Mathilda May had contracted the Covid-19. “We sometimes talk about a little flu. The fever, the headache, I had it all. And I was so, so exhausted that I couldn’t even speak or open my eyes”, she confided after recovering from it. Currently on vacation in Bali, the 57-year-old actress has caught the dengue virus also called “tropical flu”.

On her hospital bed, she posted a long message on her Instagram account where she recounts her ordeal. “Here I am stuck in a hospital bed in Bali, devastated by the dengue fever virus. Difficult days, immobilized without being able to eat or drink (and other not very fun symptoms)”. The ex-girlfriend of Gérard Darmon who recognizes his “lucky to be French”took the opportunity to make a comparison between the French hospital system and that of Bali. “It is clear that where I am, without mutual insurance, I would not have had access to this overpriced hospital (imagine with the local salaries…) It is therefore the great luxury here to be able to be treated at the hospital. , as in many other countries, alas.”

“Access to care for ALL is the basis of a just society”

She continued her post by focusing on the current French hospital system which is in crisis. “So I think of our French health system, which is dying when it is one of the most beautiful constructions of which France has always been able to be proud. Access to care for ALL is the basis of a just society. We must preserve at all costs this essential and exemplary human value.”. And to add: “France must remain this noble country which protects these citizens from the barbarism of an absurd world where the door is closed to the sick without money. Let’s defend the hospitals that are screaming and dying of not being heard. By fighting as they have always done, caregivers not only protect a system but they protect us, the patients, and all patients without distinction.”

Mathilda May ended her long message by informing that she would be repatriated to France in a few days.
