A little competition on the very high end of the graphics card for laptops?
Little by little, AMD is completing its Radeon RX 7000 Mobile offering for laptops. Little by little, because things are still a little slower than on desktop.
The Radeon RX 7900M should be the most powerful iteration and laptops equipped with such a card are starting to be marketed. GizmoSlipTech managed to get hold of one.
An Alienware for $2,799
Relayed by our colleagues from VideoCardzGizmoSlipTech’s latest YouTube video is not a test strictly speaking, but rather a sort of teaser of this test which is currently underway.
However, GizmoSlipTech already provides some interesting information, notably the configuration of its Alienware laptop. It is therefore based on an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor – without X3D – but we know nothing about the memory subsystem that supports it.
The display is devoted to a panel only 1920 x 1200 which can however reach a refresh rate of 480 Hz. Of course, the video controller is a Radeon RX 7900M and, in this configuration, the machine is sold for 2799 dollars.
4.33% better than an RTX 4080 Laptop
While waiting for the publication of a complete video test, GizmoSlipTech reveals the score obtained by this laptop on 3DMark… unfortunately in only one scene, the famous TimeSpy, not even Extreme.
There, the laptop scores 18,404 points with 19,743 points for the graphics part and 13,296 points for the CPU part. We don’t have many elements of comparison, but VideoCardz points out that a machine based on GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop achieves a score of 18,923 points: the Radeon RX 7900M would therefore be 4.33% more efficient.
Please note that such a result only gives a first idea of what we can expect from AMD’s new mobile card. 3DMark is only one and the TimeSpy scene is only one scene, not the most modern one at that.
While waiting for more complete tests, let’s just recall the slide of results published by AMD: they also pit the Radeon RX 7900M against the GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop and, as you can imagine, declares the first winner in the majority of cases.
