The American magazine “Life” resurrected

The famous red and white logo of life will make its real comeback. The iconic American magazine, big title of the 20the century recognized for its photos and which is today only accessible for its archives, will be brought back to life by the model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, announced Thursday March 28, the company of which she is CEO.

Bedford Media announced in a press release the return of Life Magazine on paper and in digital distribution, under an agreement with [l’éditeur] Dotdash Meredith to revive life as a regular publication ». The amount of the transaction has not been revealed, nor the date of the resurrection.

Slow decline and mixed fortunes

Created in 1883, bought and transformed in 1936, the magazine has long been a flagship of photojournalism, publishing the great names Robert Capa, Alfred Eisenstaedt and Margaret Bourke-White. From movie stars to wars, life has been the chronicle of the century for decades.

But after years of decline, it experienced various fortunes: weekly, it moved to intermittent then monthly distribution, before dying out then reborn and finally survive online with its archives in the 2000s.

Recently formed, Bedford Media defines itself as a company that intends to associate “iconic brands with new ways of doing business and reaching audiences”. She already acquired the magazine a few months ago iDspecialized in fashion.

The press release specifies that Dotdash Meredith “will continue to hold full rights to the photographic archives and content of lifewhich date back to the 1930s ». The publisher will also continue to publish special editions.
