The appointment of Luc Rémont at the head of EDF validated by Parliament

The new CEO will have to lead EDF through a “serious crisis”, in his own words.

Green light for the new CEO of EDF. This Wednesday, the Economic Affairs Committee of the Senate validated the appointment of Luc Rémont at the head of the energy company, with 26 votes for and 19 against. A decision also endorsed by the competent committee of the National Assembly.

Proposed by Emmanuel Macron at the end of September, the current director of international operations of Schneider Electric had to obtain the approval of Parliament, in application of article 13 of the Constitution. He will succeed Jean-Bernard Lévy, who led the tricolor group since 2014.

The businessman will have to lead EDF through a “serious crisis“, in his own words, employed this Wednesday in front of the parliamentarians. The group is indeed going through a complex period, having to relaunch the nuclear fleet in the face of an energy winter that promises to be tense, invest massively to increase electricity production in France and deal with the energy company’s massive debt. Luc Rémont will also have to manage the file of the renationalisation of EDF, announced by Élisabeth Borne last summer.
