The best bicycle locks: effectively protect e-bikes and co


If your own bike is stolen, it is very annoying. Even nastier: If it’s an expensive e-bike. A bicycle lock still provides the best protection against thieves. But which one is the right one? In addition to U-locks, folding locks and chain locks, there are also frame locks and textile coat locks. It’s easy to lose track of things. Stiftung Warentest tested the various models (issue 5/2021).

The locks cost between 30 and over 100 euros, so in addition to the test winners in the individual lock categories, we also present inexpensive alternatives that can also convince in terms of security.

If you are looking for a classic chain lock, the Kryptonite New York Chain 1210 is for you around 83 euros (to Amazon) well served: It offers a high level of security and also scores points in terms of durability. With a weight of almost 4 kilograms, the chain lock is also very heavy and therefore unwieldy.

The Decathlon B’Twin 900 Chain L for around 35 euros (to Decathlon). It weighs 1.7 kilograms, is therefore easier to handle and, like the Kryptonite model, also scores “good” (grade 1.9).
