The best chargers for your Samsung smartphone

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is brand new. The Koreans’ quick charging now enables up to 45 watts. Reason enough that we introduce you to some of the most recommended chargers for Samsung smartphones.

You can buy the Galaxy S22 Ultra since February 25th. Not only do you get the latest hardware from the company, but by Samsung standards you almost get a rush of speed when you load your smartphone.

The basic model will still only be able to be charged with a maximum of 25 watts. The other two devices are wired but at least 45 watts. All three mobile phones have a maximum of 15 watts wirelessly, with which you can fill them. Annoying again: chargers are no longer included with Samsung. So here are some great chargers we recommend, both Samsung and third-party.

We recommend two original chargers from Samsung, one each for wired and inductive charging. There are also three alternatives from third-party manufacturers that we think are highly recommended.

You have to pay attention to this when buying chargers

There is a sea of different chargers out there, both from Samsung and countless third-party manufacturers. Smartphone manufacturers usually ask you to use the original chargers. This is due to the charging power that can be called up, but should also increase safety. We bring a little light into the darkness.

Which standards are distinguished?

When we talk about fast charging, we often refer to the dizzying speeds achieved by companies like Realme and Xiaomi. We have to be aware that these manufacturers very often rely on proprietary standards. This means that you can have a Galaxy S22 Ultra that can be charged at a maximum of 45 watts, but charge it with a competitor’s 65 watt charger at significantly less than 45 watts.

If you want to learn more about these different standards and how fast charging works, I would highly recommend our article on fast charging standards. There we also explain, among other things, the USB standard “Power Delivery”, which can supply up to 100 watts via USB-C.

Unfortunately, Samsung makes it complicated for us by supporting different standards over the years. The Galaxy S21 Ultra, for example, has Samsung’s own AFC (Adaptive Fast Charging), and both USB PD (Power Delivery) 3.0 and Quick Charge 2.0 are supported.

Do you currently want to buy a fast, universally usable charger from a third-party manufacturer that will fill your new (Galaxy S20 and higher) Samsung cell phones as quickly as possible? Then note that USB PD 3.0 is referenced, along with the reference to PPS (Programmable Power Supply). PPS ensures that the voltage can be called up flexibly. As a result, the smartphone charges more efficiently, faster and more gently.

How fast can I charge my Samsung smartphone?

We mentioned it above: the S22+ and S22 Ultra charge at up to 45 watts, assuming a compatible charging adapter. If you decide on the basic model S22, 25 watts will be reached, just like the three predecessors of these smartphones from 2021. Interestingly, older models such as the Galaxy Note 10+ or the Galaxy S20 Ultra already supported fast charging with 45 watts.

In practice, this speed was mostly not reached (rather around 30 W). The new models also seem to suffer from the fact that 45 watts are only theoretically possible. In the following list of the currently most important Samsung smartphones, you can see the maximum charging speed according to Samsung and which standards are supported.

I would have liked to offer you the only Samsung wireless charging pad that supports 15 watts, but even in the Samsung store it is currently not available. Most alternatives charge with a maximum of 9 watts. In this case, you have an additional storage area so that you can also charge your Galaxy Watch in addition to your cell phone. Of course, you have to be aware that this takes time compared to wired solutions.

Sometimes size does matter. If you want to have a charger with you at all times, it is helpful if the accessory is as small as possible. Spigen, which we know from particularly great cell phone cases for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, has a particularly compact model on offer.

PPS is also supported here, but it is charged with a maximum of 25 watts. You can see how much smaller the Charger is in the picture above. So you make the choice whether you want to buy the smallest possible charger at the price of a lower charging speed. Almost 18 euros are currently due for this charger, the cable is not included.
