With more than 9,000 registrations, the Peugeot e-208 has been the best-selling electric car in France since the start of the year.
While overall new car sales are down and the auto industry is in crisis, some segments are still doing better than others. This is particularly the case for electricity, which is experiencing a nice increase. In effect, in June alone, no less than 22,000 registrations were recorded, an increase of 5%.
A nice rise in power, while 100% electric cars currently represent 12.1% of the French market since the beginning of the yearagainst only 7.9% during the first six months of 2021. The increasingly wide choice of models, the rapidly expanding network of charging stations, financial aid such as the ecological bonus and traffic restrictions are avenues to consider.
A French top seller
But then, which models are the most popular with customers over the first six months of the year? Well cocorico, it’s a French one, since it’s the Peugeot e-208, as the AAA Data report reveals. With 9,712 copies sold, the city car with the lion overtook the Dacia Spring and saw its sales increase by 6% compared to last year. Its rival is then in 2nd position, with 9,203 registered units.
For its part, and with its 8,922 sales, the Fiat 500e is placed on the third step of the podium, ahead of the Renault Zoé. The diamond city car has accumulated 8,125 registrations since the start of the year. The Tesla Model 3 comes in 5th position (7,804 copies), followed by the Renault Twingo (7,783 copies). However, it saw its sales increase by 125% in June according to the barometer of Avere-France. The latter also indicates a market share of 17% in June for 100% electric cars.
A few disappointments
We will note some good performances in this ranking, with in particular a Renault Mégane E-Tech which entered the top 10, with no less than 2,799 copies sold. Not bad for a model launched in the spring, which exceeds some installed for longer, including the Citroën ë-C4, which is in 12th position with 2,471 units sold. The Kia EV6 is also off to a good start, with no fewer than 1,901 cars registered since January.
On the other hand, it is mixed for Tesla. If the Model 3 was in first place last year, it suffered in particular from the rise in prices and fell to 5th place. Nevertheless, the Model Y is experiencing strong growth and comes in 7th position with 3,936 registrations, including 1,964 in the month of June alone.
