the big ambitions of N26 in France

The German neobank N26, present in France since 2017, intends to increase from 2.5 million to 5 million customers in France by 2025, in particular by finally allowing its customers to have a French RIB.

Our ambition (…) is to become the number 1 in digital banking by 2025has going to reach the bar of 5 million customers fairly quickly, said Wednesday to the press Jermie Rosselli, general manager of N26 for France and Benelux.

The online bank is putting forward a new asset to achieve this: it now offers its customers a French Iban and not a German one as was the case before.

The French banking identity statement (RIB) will allow N26 to respond to certain difficulties encountered by its customers, who sometimes struggle to set up their direct debits or receive certain social assistance, according to the bank.

Thanks to the French Iban, the nobank believes that more customers will be tempted to use it as their main bank and will have their salaries domiciled there, which will generate more income, underlines Mr. Rosselli during the first press conference of the French branch.

Savings by the end of the year

N26 also plans to launch a savings product on the French market by the end of the year, to develop in consumer credit and in investment, particularly in cryptocurrencies. However, there is no question of venturing into real estate credit or regulated savings accounts, such as the Livret A.

Its British competitor Revolut, which has a banking license in the European Union, also shared its ambitions at a Paris press conference in early May. Among its objectives, Revolut wishes to become the first bank in terms of number of users in the 31 European countries where it is present, while continuing to establish itself in new markets.

The French online banking market is still dominated by the Socit Generale subsidiary Boursorama, which has around 5 million customers.
