the big awaited patch is here and finally fixes this very annoying bug

Starfield finally welcomes its new patch, and it brings a change that players wanted. This big problem will finally disappear.

Starfield has definitely marked this year 2023 rich in big releases. So yes, he didn’t win any awards at the 2023 Game Awards, but that doesn’t take away from his stature and his great ambitions. That said, it still divided players, in particular because of the presence of certain persistent bugs which mar the experience. Bethesda does not intend to let this pass, and has therefore deployed a new patch which will do good for the game.

Starfield rolls out its new update

We welcome the update 1.8.87 which has officially come out of its beta phase on Steam. As a reminder, Starfield owners on the Valve platform had the opportunity to try the update in order to provide feedback to the studio. Now, the time has come for all platforms to witness the arrival of this new patch. On the menu, there are not a lot of tweaks to note. However, one of them will finally erase a very annoying bug.

This is a rather strange technical issue that affected the space travel sequences. Indeed, space material could attach to the player’s ship and get stuck on it. From now on, a simple backup recharge will overcome this problem. On the other hand, it will always be present if the ship is attached to New Atlantis. Yes yes, in New Atlantis, so suffice to say that this is really not supposed to happen. Obviously, we are dealing with a massive glitch which will only be addressed in a future update.

Aside from that, there is an important fix for outposts. For good reason, it sometimes happened to load a save in these places, make a new weapon crate and… not see them appear inside. It’s never pleasant to encounter such a bug, and fortunately, it will no longer bother you thanks to this patch. The Starfield experience should therefore be more pleasant, even if another bug linked to a memory leak that could crash the game was recently discovered. Bethesda will have to take care of it shortly, you just have to be patient.

Version 1.8.87 Patch Notes

Here is the complete list of changes brought by this update 1.8.87. As we said above, it is not very big, and will not transform Starfield from top to bottom. However, it’s always nice to see the company refine its title based on player feedback.

  • Fixed an issue where space matter would get stuck on the player’s ship during space travel. Loading a save now deletes it. Please note: this fix will take care of space matter stuck during your travels, but not in the case where ships are attached to New Atlantis. A fix will be implemented in a later update.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented random weapons from spawning in a new weapon crate after loading a save.
  • [MSS/Xbox] Fixed an issue where players could experience crashes while saving during a long game session without using Unity.
