The Blues Brothers: the sad anecdote about the late John Belushi

Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi were the brilliant and unforgettable Blues Brothers, whose film is broadcast this evening on France 5. The opportunity to come back to a moving anecdote that John Landis told us about the late John Belushi.

Black glasses. Black hats. Black ties. Black suits. As almost FBI agents, the smashing duo Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, alias Jack and Elwood Blues, tumbled onto the big screen, launched on an almost divine mission. Goal ? Raise the $5,000 needed to save the orphanage they were raised in. It is an understatement to say that since its release, 42 years ago (already…), the Blues Brothers has become an ultra cult film.

This fabulous nugget signed John Landis is not just a musical film; it’s his clever mix of action, music and humor buddy movie which make its originality, its success, in short all its flavor. It is one of a kind, caustic, and got the 80s off to a flying start! At the time, he had managed to attract more than 2.47 million spectators in France. Great success.

In 2015, we had the great pleasure of talking to John Landis, precisely, to sweep his career in his company. And the interested party to give us a tasty, moving and sad anecdote, evoking his memories with John Belushi, who died of an overdose, and, at the time of the filming of the film, a very heavy user: “I walked into his trailer one day and saw a mountain of coke, like Tony Montana in Scarface!” he let us go…

He told us about his memories of the Blues Brothers in the video below…
