The body in all its antics: at the feet of desire

THE SEX ACCORDING TO MAÏA

Erotic zones, erogenous zones: once we have mentioned the “usual suspects” (penis, clitoris, vagina, testicles, anus, breasts), we often only have room for a footnote. When some take all the light, the “other” pleasures seem anecdotal. It is unfair and, above all, it is a pity. This summer series will therefore be devoted to secondary characters of pleasure – even to the great forgotten. We start, this Sunday, from the bottom: on the feet!

Technical sheet : End part of the lower limb of the human body, decorated with five adorable little growths.

Semantics: Getting it right, being at someone’s feet, kicking, finding the right fit… from tongue to foot, would that only be one step?

Erogenous potential: Some 7,200 nerve endings per foot, that’s almost as much as in the clitoris or glans penis! If some enthusiasts claim that this area has “sexual nerves”, the thing remains physiologically to be demonstrated: in the 2013 Cortex survey devoted to the classification of erogenous zones, the feet barely reached 28e position… out of a total of 41. Either after the shoulder blades and the back of the knee.

Erotic potential: Why does the foot arouse so much envy? Maybe because it’s hidden. Maybe because he’s sensitive. Maybe because it allows you to caress yourself discreetly under the table. But perhaps, also, because it allows a real intimate communication. According to the pioneer of sexology Alfred Kinsey (quoted by William Rossi), “The most striking muscular reactions during sexual activity are those of the feet and toes … most people’s toes twitch or lengthen when there is erotic arousal.”. Do not panic: this reflex would simply participate in muscle tension and relaxation during orgasm.

Symbolic potential: Ouch, where to start? With us bipeds, the structure of the foot makes the vertical position possible, which itself makes frontal copulation possible – hence the exchange of glances. For some, this is where we have to look for the source of our eroticism (which would differentiate us from other animals). But many other explanations exist. Thus the foot would symbolize the penis, while the shoe would symbolize the vulva (the very one that Cinderella leaves to the prince at midnight). Whatever your favorite metaphor, the eternal dance of the masculine and the feminine would be played at ground level.
