“The bones were put there”, the residents perplexed by this lead from the investigators

The investigation into the disappearance ofEmile experienced a new turning point at the end of March after bones were quickly identified and which we are now certain belonged to the boy who was two and a half years old at the time of his disappearance, in the municipality of Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) on July 8, 2023. It was a hiker who made the macabre discovery on a trail located very far from where he was last seen. The latter’s behavior for a time questioned the investigators, deployed again in large numbers immediately, as well as the local residents, some of whom do not believe in the accidental track favored by experts.

This is not the first time that the results of the investigations have been questioned by local residents, who know the hamlet of Haut-Vernet very well which depends on the commune of Vernet, where Émile’s grandparents live. Many of them believe that investigators are on the wrong track and make it known that they believe more criminal thesis.

A discovery too strange for the neighbors?

One of the village farmers gave his point of view on this subject to BFM TV and, if he concedes that the authorities “will conclude it was an accident”, “basically” of him there is no “don’t believe”. There was a meter of grass, woods across the way, uneven terrain with bumps, hollows, valleys… No, I do not believe it !“he finally blurted out.

He is not the only one to think so, it is also the case of a gendarme living in “the area” and who followed the affair from the very beginning. He also believes that the bones were left after the fact, given that the place had been the subject of intense searches last summer and that this path is very popular. “That would mean we missed him”, he said. However, he expressed some reservations and declared that there was no “only people who have never participated in operational research who may think that we always find what we are looking for”. For him, “the heat, the fatigue, the people and exhausted dogs who had worked all day elsewhere before arriving on the site on Saturday evening” are all factors that would also help to explain that “nothing was found” at the time.

Émile’s mother comes out of the silence

Today, the village of Vernet is deserted by investigators and the mayor has lifted the closure measures intended to protect his residents from the major media interest aroused by the death of young Émile. It is further estimated that no more clues or bones are likely to be found.

For their part, Émile’s parents called for prayer after the discovery of these bones and his mother, Marie Soleil, wanted to speak last week, for the first time since the investigation experienced this unexpected twist. She wanted to thank the many donors who contributed to the fund raised for the funeral of their child, officially recognized as dead. No date has yet been announced at this time.
