The Book by Boba Fett: The Night of a Thousand Tears – The Destruction of Mandalore Explained

In the 5th episode of “The Book of Boba Fett” the first preparations for the 3rd season of “The Mandalorian” are already being made. While it was hinted in the Season 2 finale that Mando, now in possession of the Darksaber, would soon travel to Mandalore with Bo-Katan, The Book of Boba Fett revealed more about Mandalore itself.

Fans of the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels” didn’t learn much that was new, but Mandalore has never been seen in the live-action productions before. The now shown attack of the Empire on the planet, which the armorer calls “The Night of a Thousand Tears”, brings back memories of the Day of Judgment from the “Terminator” films.

The Siege of Mandalore began when Bo-Katan received the Darksaber as a gift from Sabine Wren. This powerful weapon caused several Mandalorian clans to band together and oppose the Empire that was spreading across Mandalore.

However, in response, the Empire planned to wipe out all Mandalorians. The Great Purge that followed ended with the Night of a Thousand Tears, during which the domed cities of Mandalore were destroyed and scores of Mandalorians died.

The survivors scattered throughout the universe, leaving Mandalore devastated and uninhabitable. The belief that the darksaber must be won in battle and not received as a gift has led many Mandalorians to blame Bo-Katan for the Great Purge.

In “The Mandalorian” season 3 we will probably see how Mando, Bo-Katan and Boba Fett travel to Mandalore, the world of the Mandalorians is rebuilt and Mandalore gets a new ruler. In the process, Boba could become the Mandalorian, which would conclude his story for now.

In “The Book of Boba Fett” the fight against the Pykes awaits us first. Mando will certainly be there too, maybe he’ll even bring Grogu with him in his new little mail shirt. There are two episodes left, so stay tuned!
