Particularly trashy, The Boys series contains many sequences that can upset the stomach. And yet, all the disgusting scenes filmed do not even end up in the final cut, as revealed by the interpreter of Frenchie.
In promotion of season 3 of The Boys which has just ended on Prime Video, Israeli actor Tomer Capone, who plays Frenchie, revealed to Digital Spy improvise a lot on set. “To have the opportunity to bring ideas every time, and to have the chance to try them out on set, and to explore, is a gift for an actor”, he confided before adding:
You know, there’s some weird Frenchie takes that I hope one day they’ll uncover. I tried some weird stuff. If you think Frenchie is weird now, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
A statement that obviously makes you want to know more about these shots that you imagine to be folkloric. “There are so many”, specified the actor before giving more details on a particular sequence which was discarded during the editing of the third episode of season 2.
Still more guts
“Let’s say I have a plan – I don’t know why it comes to mind. I have so many. But one of them was, when I got out of the whale guts, I put some guts in my mouth. There’s a shot where Frenchie comes out, and he chokes, and then he… I think I spat whale guts on the camera lens, and they didn’t use it. It’s just weird stuff like that”, he recounted.
The scene in question, where the Boys’ boat gets stuck in the bowels of a poor whale, is already not very appetizing and very bloody, seeing Frenchie spitting intestines right on the camera and therefore the screen of the point view of the spectator would perhaps have been the straw that broke the camel’s back!
Much less disgusting, if not downright cute, Tomer Capone revealed other moments that didn’t end up in The Boys: “Oh, and we had kind of a secret handshake, me and Karen, this season, for Frenchie and Kimiko. They loved it. We all loved her. And we did it a lot in front of the camera. And they didn’t use it, in the end.” Too bad, a little more sweetness in this raw world would not have hurt!
