The universe of The Boys is growing! After the successful Gen V and its group of superheroic teenagers, Amazon is developing a new spin-off of its cult series, this time set in Mexico.
Los Chicos?
Still based on the original comic strip by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, this new spin-off series, currently in writing, would be filmed in Spanish and take place in Mexico. A surprising turn for the crown jewel of the Prime Video streaming platform, but a rather clever one given the global weight of Cervantes’ language.
The story is still kept secret, but we know that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is attached to its writing. He notably wrote the scripts for the superhero film Blue Beetle and the most interesting Miss Bala.
And that’s not all: this Mexican variant must be produced by Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg (already at the helm of The Boys), but also Diego Luna (Andor, Narcos) and Gael Garcia Bernal (Travel diaries, Coco), via their company La Corriente del Golfo. Both actors would also like to play roles in the series.
This series The Boys: Mexico (unofficial title) is currently only under development and has not received the green light from Amazon to go into production. If this were the case, it would become the third spin-off in the universe of the superheroic program, after Gen V and the animated series The Boys: Diabolical released in 2022.
For now, fans can console themselves with the upcoming arrival of season 4, scheduled for 2024 on Prime Video, as well as season 2 of Gen Vconfirmed in October by Amazon. The Boys hasn’t finished growing.
